14 new MERS cases reported in South Korea

Seoul: Nearly 14 new cases, including a pregnant woman, of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) have been reported in South Korea on Thursday. Over 122 cases have been identified with the MERS outbreak that is largest outside Saudi Arabia.

The health ministry of South Korea confirmed that the new cases. The ministry added that the eight of 14 cases including the pregnant woman, have been linked to the same Seoul hospital. The outbreak of MERS created panic among the public. It is learnt the condition of the woman is stable and earlier her parents were also tested positive to MERS. More than 2000 schools remain closed and the virus hit the economy by disturbing the business and tourism.

On Wednesday, a joint South Korean-World Health Organisation asked the schools be reopened as they were unlikely to spread the disease. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, South Korea has the second highest number of cases after Saudi Arabia.
