According to survivors, last week a group of between 100 and 200 people departed on a 30-metre-long boat from a place near Tobruk in Libya.

It is heard that the incident took place when the smugglers on charge of the boat attempted to transfer the passengers to a larger ship carrying hundreds of people in overcrowded conditions. During the shifting, the larger boat overturned and went down. The survivors include people who managed to swim back to smaller boat and who had not boarded the larger ship.
