Yet another milestone for the Portuguese soccer star. This time it is ‘Astronomical'(literally!!). A newly found galaxy was renamed after the star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. Yep, I know. The idea of becoming astronomer might sound tempting especially if you can name a Galaxy after your star sports hero.
Going into the details, a group of scientists recently discovered galaxy, and named it COSMOS Redshift 7, or CR7 for short.CR7 id also the nickname of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo whose jersey number is No. 7. The ‘CR7’ became famous all over the world when Nike cleat clubbed it.
The European Southern Observatory released a statement on Wednesday that the lead astronomer of the team, who hails from Ronaldo’s native Portugal, cited Ronaldo as inspiration for the galaxy’s name .
It was described as “an exceptionally rare object, by far the brightest galaxy ever observed at this stage in the Universe.”
The name COSMOS Redshift 7 is also a measurement of galaxy’s place and distance in the terms of cosmic time.
