Death toll rises to 72 in Peru rains and landslides

Over the last three months, Peru has experienced intense rains, mudslides, overflowing rivers and floods. This is the worst that the Country had experienced in the last two decades. The authorities on Saturday said that this is affecting more than half of the country and death toll since the beginning of 2017 has risen to 72.

This number was updated by the Prime Minister Fernando Zavala on Saturday in his comments about the situation to local radio station RPP. The government also said, in a similar incident of massive rains and floods caused by the El Nino pattern, 374 people were killed. The Pacific Coast of the country has been overwhelmed by the rains affecting the drain structure. The Health Ministry has hence requested people to be careful with the spreading Dengue fever and started fumigating water around the pools of water to kill mosquitos.

The country has also experienced a shortage of water from the beginning of this week and government has sent in armed forces to help the public of 811 cities, which have declared an emergency. People have abandoned homes with a single pack of all heir belongings. Lima, the capital of Peru, which often has desert like climate is also experiencing this adverse weather. The government has now decided to approach the UN for making adjustments for the Nation’s needs.
