Landslide kills 15 in Nepal

Kathmandu: As many as 15 people were killed and several others are missing in Nepal due to landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in six villages. It is heard that many others were also trapped. According to officials, nearly 15 persons, who were sleeping in their homes during night, are believed to have been killed due to landslide in mountainous northeast in Nepal.

According to Home Ministry official Laxmi Dhakal, the heavy downpour and fog are disturbing the rescue operations as there are no police stations or government offices in the area. During rainy monsoon season, landslides are common in mountain regions of Nepal. Landslides began in June and ends in September in the season.

Nepal is still rebuilding the nation from earthquakes in May. More than 8,700 people were killed and massive damage was caused by the powerful quakes.
