A third earthquake of 5.6 magnitudes struck the central Turkiye region on Tuesday, the 7th of February, hours after three devastating earthquakes hit Turkiye and Syria on Monday, the 6th of February.

The severe earthquakes in the region of Turkiye killed more than 4,000 people and left thousands of others severely injured.   In addition, the Turkiye Natural Disaster Management launched search and rescue operations in the search of survivors are underway.  Many countries, including India, are sending in supplies and relief teams to the earthquake that hit Turkiye.

On the 6th of February, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Turkiye earthquake and extended help to assist rescue operations and save lives.  In this regard, a batch of Indian forces, National Defence Rescue Teams, trained dog squads and medical supplies team flew to Turkiye to support the concerned authority in Turkiye in the search operations.

As of now, the death toll is feared to go up as the rescue teams’ search through the rubble is underway.   

Meanwhile, speaking of the earthquakes, the epicentre of the first quake was near Nurdagi in Gaziantep province, the Syrian border.  The other two quakes struck in the nearby Kahramanmaraş province. 

Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also declared seven days of national mourning during which the Turkish flags will fly at half staff across the nation and at its diplomatic missions overseas.
