The Hyderabad police, on the 1st of February, arrested six women, who allegedly kidnapped and physically abused V. Sai Kumar, a 23 year old carpenter, in Hyderabad.
Pulleri Divya, 24 years old, is a software engineer by profession and works as a Project Manager at Wipro.
According to the police, Divya, along with her five friends, committed the crime by trying to teach a lesson to Sai Kumar because he was stalking her. She said, since a week, Sai was stalking and harassing her and he even called her in order to request her to meet him.
Pravallika, one of Divya’s friends, called Sai for some work using Divya’s phone. Following this, Sai allegedly saved Divya’s number and started calling and texting her.
Disturbed by Kumar’s behaviour, Divya made a plan with her five friends and called him to an unknown place in Secunderabad. The six women then kidnapped Kumar and beat him up with sticks. Kumar managed to escape and got himself admitted to a hospital.
K. Srinivasa Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP,) Gopalapuram, Hyderabad, said, “They [the woman and her friends], the victim alleges, wanted to kill him. He somehow managed to escape and got himself admitted to a hospital. The woman and her friends have been arrested.”
The police took Divya and her friends into custody and charged them under Section 309 (Attempt to murder) and Section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)
It is yet not confirmed whether the women reported a First Information Report (FIR) against Sai Kumar or not.
The police prepared a chargesheet and launched an investigation.
