Photo sharing platform, Instagram has at last added a new layout feature that lets users to click pictures in landscape mode finally coming out of its traditional approach of just allowing a square camera in the app.

This move is aimed to boost the revenues of the company, as it would attract more advertisers and ensuring that there’s a constant amount of traction to the app, so that users do not opt for switching to any other similar app like Snapchat.

This is Instagram’s first ever modification to its interface ever since it was acquired by social media giant Facebook for almost a billion dollars. Instagram currently has 300 million users.

“It boils down to giving advertisers and users more options,” Debra Aho Williamson, a social media marketing and advertising analyst told a news organization. “You want people to be able to see more of your ad. It’s something advertisers are definitely going to be interested in,” he added.

With this, Instagram is expected to make about $600 million as far as advertising is concerned by the end of 2015 and this boost in revenue is expected to continue further and would amount for @2.8 billion by 2017.

Its parent company, Facebook, the world’s leading social networking website, generated over $12 billion in revenue in 2014. The growing service hit one billion users in a single day for the first time on Monday.
