Online Shopping via Mobile Apps To Cross $40 Million Mark In 2016

Today, when you switch on the TV, most the advertisements you find of the e-commerce websites like Flipkart, Jabong, Snapdeal among others. India is currently witnessing a huge growth in terms of online shopping and smartphone shopping is predominant than traditional website shopping.

Most of the websites are now adopting the “App Only” feature and are pressing their concentration app by aggressively promoting it, by offering various discounts and loyalty programs when purchased from mobile app.

If we go by the statistics, India is set to witness yet another drastic rise in terms of mobile shopping as it is expected to touch the $40 million mark by 2016 from the current $30 million. In 2014 itself, the internet population in India were around 243 million which is further expected to rise.

“The number of users making online transactions has also grown exponentially, and it is expected to increase from 11 million in 2011 to 38 million in 2015. Government of India’s plan to rebuild and modernise the Indian postal infrastructure and plan to implement Digital India will also boost the e-commerce sector,” says the study.

This rise in online shopping is already sending shivers down the lines of local retailers, as most of their business is now being eaten away by these e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Snapdeal. However, with websites like LocalJao, Grofers and others, who are solely concentrating on local shopping, might bring in some respite to these local retailers from the ever growing online shopping.
