O. Panneerselvam received the best Valentine’s Day gift from the Supreme Court as Sasikala has been arrested in the disproportionate assets case. Sasikala of AIADMK faces a huge hurdle as the Supreme Court upheld the trial court judgment that convicted her for the 21 year old disproportionate assets case against her. This disqualifies Sasikala from becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu leaving the seat to OPS.
The Karnataka Government challenged the decision of the High court on May 11, 2015, that acquitted Jayalalithaa and Sasikala, and two relatives V.N. Sudhakaran and Elavarasi. The case was for amassing disproportionate assets that account to Rs. 66.65 crores during Amma’s first term as CM in between 1991 and 1996. The Supreme Court dismissed Karnataka HCs judgment and pronounced 4 years sentence to Sasikala. The Riot police reached the Golden Bay resort so as to arrest Sasikala and also execute the 2000 page verdict that directs Sasikala to surrender immediately.
