Brazil Reports First Case Of Omicron; New COVID-19 Variant

On the 1st of December, Wednesday, Brazil reported its first confirmed case of Omicron, the new variant of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

Found in South Africa, on the 24th of November, the new variant has now become a matter of concern, globally.  After Japan and France, now Latin America also reported the confirmed case of this new variant.

According to sources, the Sao Paulo Health Secretariat, on Wednesday, said, two South Africa returnees, a 42 year old man and 37 year old woman showed symptoms of COVID-19.  Their samples were taken for tests on the 25th of November and the report came on the 1st of December.   The Secretariat released a statement, “After the positive result, the couple was instructed to remain in isolation at home. Both are being monitored by state and municipal (authorities), as well as their respective family members.”  The Statement further read, “An initial investigation did not identify them being vaccinated anywhere.”

As per the medical test reports, the two returnees are tested positive for Omicron, classified as the ‘variant of concern’ by the World Health Organisation (WHO.)   Meanwhile, the details and the effect of the new variant of the COVID-19 variant is yet to be known.
