India Lost Its First Transgender Cop

Twenty Year old transgender K Prithika Yashini’s dream of joining the police force was shattered as the time concord her wish. She was lacked behind with just 1 second of qualifying time in a 100 metre sprint during her physical test at Jawarharlal Nehru stadium recently. Prithika battled at Madras High court participate for the selection for the post of sub-inspector, she cleared the first round of the physical tests by finishing the 400m race in 1.50, within the 2.50m target, a day before.
After this all the eyes were on Prithika as she cleared the previous test and if she would have cracked her physical test, Prithika would be the first transgender to qualify as a police officer in the country. The fighter completed her race despite of her knee injury.

“I’ve been dreaming about becoming a police officer for more than five years. I hoped to make the transgender community proud,” she said, when she calmed down. “It is unfair of the police department to reject transgenders because it does not have a separate category for them.”
The police department earlier rejected her entrance application form as they did not have a transgender category in it.Friends in the transgender community helped her fight the case and the court permitted her to take part in the physical tests for women applicants.
