Actor turned politician Jaya Bachchan on Wednesday slammed the BJP led Government. Speaking at the Rajya Sabha, the minister said the government is busy protecting cows in the country and not its women.
Jaya Bachchan is a member of Parliament on behalf of the Samajwadi Party and spoke about women empowerment issues in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. This issue was brought into notice after the Trinamool Congress MPs brought to the notice of the speaker about the BJP Youth leader who announced Rs. 11 lakhs reward for any person who would behead the TMC leader and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Mrs. Bachchan said, “Must take steps for protection of women aggressively. You are protecting cows but (not) atrocities being committed on women.” The members of Parliament fired upon the BJP government and criticized them for not reigning the Hindutva groups. The groups have created mayhem in the country over the beef ban, the smuggling of cows and have taken the law into their hands.
Calling themselves vigilantes, the ‘gau rakshaks’ have resorted to violence and murder in a few parts of the Country. This issue was brought to the fore after the UP CM Yogi Adityanath issued a ban on the illegal slaughterhouses across the State. It is in regard to this issue, the minister pointed out the lack of protection for women in the Country and increase in protection to the cows.
