Reasons Why 15 Crore Workers Are On Strike In India Today

Over 15 Crore workers across the country are on “a-day” strike against the changes made under the labour law, which may risk at their work.

Here are few Reasons Behind Bharat Bandh today: 
1. The Bandh was initially called by 10 trade unions after they were informed that the government dump are planning to sell off the stakes in state-run companies and asked to shutdown the unproductive factories, instead of reviving the sick units.
2. With the new laws that are amended by the government in Factory Establishment Act, Bonus Act and Industrial relations 75% of the workforce will be out of purview of labour laws, claimed by the Trade unions.
3. Employees of Banking, manufacturing, construction and coal mining sectors are mainly on the strike. The fresh labour laws are expect to diminish the influence of trade unions and make the labour market more flexible.
4. According to the new government plans the small factories will be taken out of the labour laws which comprises up to 40 workers. Unions say,’ this would take away the job security of most of the workforce.’
5. Traders, domestic workers and daily wage labourers have also joined the strike to demand an increase in the minimum wage.
