On the 11th of February, Saturday, the Himachal Pradesh Police said, a sniffer Labrador dog named Duka, who was the loyal security dog of the Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama for 12 years, was sold for $20 (Rs. 1,550 approx.) Duka was sold at an auction event, held on the 11th of February, in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Served over a decade for Dalai Lama, his security dog finally retired from his duties.
Speaking of the journey of Duka, he was seven months old when he started his service for Dalai Lama, in 2010. The Himachal Pradesh Police purchased Duka for Rs. 1.23 lakhs and trained him to be a loyal security for the Tibetan Spiritual leader. The Himachal Pradesh Police used Duka, the security dog for patrolling Dalai Lama’s official palace and to sniff out potential bomb threats. Furthermore, Duka was also used to inspect and recee venues before public engagements of the Dalai Lama.
After Duka retired from his duties, the responsibility of protecting Dalai Lama has been given to nine month old Tommy. Trained by the Punjab Home Guards Canine Training and Breeding Institute, Tommy is worth Rs 3 lakh.
