A shocking incident reported from a Pune school is going viral on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
In a viral video, Dr. D.Y. Patil School Principal Alexander Reid, was being thrashed and his clothes being ripped by a group of mobs. Shared widely online, the video shows how the school principal was running away and a group of people, claiming to be associated with the Bajrang Dal, a Hindutva activist group, following him and beating him.
Getting into the details, the assault was in view of Christian prayer recited during the school assembly. In addition, the principal was also alleged to have installed CCTV cameras inside the girls’ washroom, on the school premises.
The Bajrang Dal associated mobs said, “A number of parents approached us complaining that the school authorities were asking their children to recite prayers of Jesus Christ. They also complained that the students are not given holidays on Hindu festivals.” The mob alleged, “Besides, CCTV cameras are also installed inside the girls’ toilet. The Christian Principal here was promoting his religion amongst the students.”
Furthermore, Alexander Reid is booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation is underway.
The school administration is yet to respond to the matter.
