India tennis players ended the Indian campaign of the World Tennis Tournament (WTT) Contender 2022, securing 2 medals.
In the semi finals of the WTT Contender Doha 2022, Indian players Manika Batra and G. Sathiyan secured a Silver medal, whereas Achanta Sharath Kamal secured a Bronze medal. While Manika and Sathiyan secured in mixed doubles against top seeded Chinese Taipei pair of Lin Yun-Ju and Cheng I-Ching, Sharath lost against Yuan Licen of China.
The score of the two Indian players was mixed doubles, 4-11, 5-11, 3-11 and men’s singles 3-4 (5-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 10-12, 9-11.
After the 2020 Oman Open, this was the first medal for Sharath in two years. Achanta Sharath Kamal said, “I should have wrapped it up in the sixth game itself.” He further said, “I am glad I finished on the podium (bronze) and carry the form from here to the next tournament.”
The WTT Contender Doha 2022 is being held at Lusail Sports Arena in Doha, Qatar.
