Nagarjuna Sagar: High tension prevailed at Nagarjuna Sagar dam with police forces of Andhra Pradesh taking half of the project under their control. The incident happened a few hours before Telangana elections gained political significance.
Heated arguments between police from both the states created a tense atmosphere. Vehicle movement was stopped on the Sagar project late at night. AP Irrigation authorities fenced in the middle of the project to control operations from 14-26 gates.
AP state Irrigation minister Ambati Rambabu said that water will be released from Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal for drinking water needs in Guntur and Prakasam districts. He said that they are exercising their legal right.
The move gained political significance in Telangana state on the polling day. T Congress leader Komatireddy Rajagopal condemned the act of AP Police and state government. He opined that BRS and YSRCP intentionally created a drama at Nagarjuna Sagar to provoke the people.
