KT Rama Rao Launches Cool Roof Policy In Telangana
Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology Minister of Telangana, launched India’s first Cool Roof Policy.
Initiated by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government, the policy would aim at reducing the urban heat island impact and heat stress. The environmental friendly initiative would also help in the process of saving CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions and would also save energy.
Launched for a duration of 2023 to 2028, the Cool Roof policy would make Telangana a thermally comfortable and a heat resilient State, especially when the Indian Meteorological Department alerted extreme heat in 2023.
Under the leadership of Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, the mission would ensure faster adoption of cool roofs in the State and a well ecosystem with manpower, supporting implementation of cool roofs. It would also ensure access of cool surfaces to all and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of cool roof installations.
The initiative would also help in cooling homes keeping indoor temperature 2.13 to 4.3 degree Celsius lower than households with traditional roofs. It will also lower costs since cool roofs need limited maintenance and can save 20% in energy costs.
