Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Health Minister of Telangana, launched the booster dose COVID-19 Vaccination Drive in Charminar, Hyderabad.
On the 10th of January, the Telangana Health Minister launched the vaccination drive, for elderly people and front line workers, amid the Wuhan virus (COVID-19) surge and its new variant, the Omicron threat. Recently, the Union Government announced to begin booster shots, also known as “precautionary shot” to frontline warriors and senior citizens to take the third dose of COVID-19 vaccination, from the 10th of January.
In accordance with the Union Government’s announcement, Mr. T. Harish Rao launched a booster dose vaccine drive at Unani hospital in Charminar.
Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Mumtaz Amjad Khan got his first booster dose of the vaccine. With this launch, the vaccination drive for booster dose started across Telangana.
The Telangana Health Official said, “If all the eligible beneficiaries took their second dose on time, then healthcare workers and frontline workers will be eligible to get the precautionary dose from January 2022 while those senior citizens, who took their second jab by April, 2021, will be eligible for the precautionary jab from February 2022.”
Meanwhile, in Telangana, a total of 8.32 lakh senior citizens are suffering from pre-existing medical conditions and all of them will be given the booster dose. Including the healthcare workers and frontline warriors, there are a total of 6.34 lakh people who would be given the booster dose.
