This was an unexpected snap.
The baby elephant got a shock when a crocodile bit his trunk as it stopped for water. The crocodile was waiting for the ideal moment before rising from the water to attack the baby elephant at Mana Polls in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley.
As the elephant reeled back in shock, other members of the herd began trumpeting and snorting in shock as they battled to save the calf.
Fortunately the baby elephant managed to evade the predator’s jaws and save his own hide.
“The calf was screaming then, with a burst of determination, almost pulled the croc out of the water,” said photographer Francois Borman, who captured the incredible pictures.
“The others charged and eventually the croc let go. It was amazing to see.”
