Chhattisgarh is conducting its second phase of polls today, from 8:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M., for 72 constituency seats.

An election official said, “Voting begun at 7 A.M. in two polling booths of the Bindranavagarh constituency (Gariaband district,) while in the remaining 72 constituencies, the polling started at 8 A.M..”

The polling for Amora and Modh in Bindranavagarh will be held from 7:00 A.M., to 3:00 P.M., due to the threat of Naxals in the area. The Naxals are against the elections and caused violence earlier, ahead of the polls.

A total of 1,079 candidates are contesting in 19 districts of Chhattisgarh. Approximately 1,54,00,596 voters are expected to vote in today’s polls, including 76,46,382 women and 877 individuals belonging to the third gender.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are competing against each other for today’s 72 constituency seats. Out of the 72 seats, 17 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and 9 are for Scheduled Castes. A total of 90 Assembly seats are being contested in the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls.

The leaders representing the BJP are Gaurishankar Agrawal (Kasdol constituency,) Brijmohan Agrawal (Raipur city south constituency,) and Bhaiyalal Rajwade (Baikunthpur constituency.)

The candidates from the Congress contesting the elections are Bhupesh Baghel (Patan constituency,) T.S. Singhdeo (Ambikapur constituency) and Tamradhwaj Sahu (Durg rural constituency.)

The districts where the polls are being conducted are Gariaband, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Kabirdham, Jashpur and Balrampur, and Durg Rural, among many others.

High security is being maintained with 84,688 officials deployed to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly in all the 19,336 polling booths.

The results of the elections will be announced on the 11th of December.
