Chandrashekhar Azad, the President of the Bhim Army, was released on bail on the 15th of January. 

A Delhi court granted bail to Chandrashekhar Azad after a month of his arrest.  Chandrashekhar Azad was arrested on the grounds of provoking violence during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act [CAA,] 2019. 

Kamini Lau, the judge of the additional sessions court, said Azad would be released only after he agrees to a few conditions. 

The conditions were he would not participate in any kind of protests till the Delhi elections are held and he would not be in Delhi for the next four weeks due to the Delhi elections. 

Ms. Lau said, “I want no interference in elections.”

The Delhi Police Commissioner would escort Chandrashekar Azad to his residence in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. 

Moreover, to prove he is in Saharanpur, Chandrashekhar Azad has to check in with the station house officer (SHO) at the Fatehpur Police Station every Saturday for the next four weeks. 

Kamini Lau said, “We have absolutely no objection to him paying obeisance wherever he wants to while he’s here.”  She further added, “Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) will provide escort protection for him to go wherever to pay obeisance.  He can do so wherever in the next 24 hours, before he is escorted to Saharanpur.” 

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad was released after he signed a bail bond of Rs. 25,000.
