On the 7th of May, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is scheduled to visit Visakhapatnam and monitor the situation.
The visit is scheduled after the Visakhapatnam gas leakage incident took place.
On the 7th of May, around 3:00 A.M., a chemical gas leakage at L.G. Polymers, a pharmaceutical company, claimed 8 lives and left 5,000 injured.
Out of the 8 people, two senior citizens and an 8 year old girl also lost their lives. The incident caused chaos in RR Venkatapuram village near Gopalapatnam in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the Collector of Visakhapatnam for rescue operation with additional force of the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF.) Visakhapatnam Police is also at the spot and said the situation is under control.
People residing in the 3 km radius of the pharmaceutical company have been evacuated and nearly 200 to 500 injured people are undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals. Out of the total, 70 are said to be unconscious.
Avanti Srinivas, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Advancement in A.P., Visakhapatnam Collector V. Vinay Chand and other officials are on spot and supervising the rescue operations.
The rescue operation is underway.
