The Wuhan virus or the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in India witnessed a rise in deaths. In the past 24 hours, the nation reported 4,454 new fatalities due to the deadly Wuhan virus.

With the new 4,454 death cases, India crossed 3 million deaths due to the COVID-19 infection.

In addition to the 4,454 deaths, India reported 2,22,315 new cases and 3,02,544 recoveries from the Novel Coronavirus. This is the eighth consecutive day when India has recorded less than 3 lakh new cases.

The updated figure was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 24th of May. In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted a total of 33,05,36,064 COVID-19 tests including 19,28,127 samples, which were tested in the past 24 hours.

With this, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the nation has

26,752,447 positive cases, of which 27,20,716 are active cases, 23,728,011 are recovered/discharged cases and 3,03,720, are deceased cases due to the Wuhan virus.

Of the 28 Indian states and 8 union territories (UTs,) Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and West Bengal have the highest number of COVID-19 cases. Seven states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan account for 66.88 % of India’s total active cases for the Wuhan virus.

Karnataka, is the worst of all, which recently overtook Maharashtra in terms of the COVID-19 active cases. As of now, Karnataka has 4,73,007 active infections, whereas Maharashtra has 3,51,005 active cases.

On the other hand, speaking of the vaccination against the Wuhan virus, the Union Health Ministry confirmed as many as 19,60,51,962 COVID-19 doses.

The MoHFW also informed that the daily coronavirus positivity rate has declined to 11.34 %, recovery rate improved and is at 88.30 % and the national mortality rate currently stands at 1.13 %.
