Mr. Babul Supriyo, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Asansol, resigned from the post.  His resignation came months after he quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC.)

On the 19th of October, Tuesday, Mr. Babul Supriyo, who is a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) formally submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Om Birla.   He resigned as the BJP member in August, but was holding the position of MP.  However, now he decided to leave the BJP MP post, as he is no longer a member of the Party.

After resigning, Mr. Babul Supriyo addressed the media and said, “My heart is heavy as I had begun my political career through (the) BJP.  I thank the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), (the) Party Chief (J.P.Nadda) and (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah.  Confidence was shown in me.  I’d left politics wholeheartedly. I thought that if I’m not a part of the party, I shouldn’t keep the seat for myself.”

He also commented about Suvendu Adhikari, who is a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC.)  Highlighting the similar situation in the TMC Mr. Babul Supriyo suggested MPs of the TMC to resign if they are not a part of the Party.  He said, “Suvendu Adhikari was an integral part of TMC a few months back.  Outside politics he has been a friend; he obviously has to say very harsh things about me politically.  But he should advise his father and brother to resign from MP seats as they’re no more a part of TMC.”

It is to be noted, Mr. Babul Supriyo resigned as the Union Minister for State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change in August.  Mr. Babul Supriyo left the BJP due to the reshuffle in the Cabinet ministry posts and rift with the senior leaders for the same.  He was upset at being dropped from the Union Council of Ministers by Mr. Narendra Modi led BJP Government.

Later, on the 18th of September, he quit the BJP and joined the TMC.  Now, he submitted his resignation as the BJP MP post, saying if he is not a part of the BJP, how he can be a BJP MP, following which he left his MP post.
