Mr. Deepinder Goyal, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of Zomato clarified their 10-minute food delivery initiative on Twitter.

After the recent backlash from the netizens over the new features, the CEO, on the 22nd of March, took to Twitter and said, “Hello Twitter, good morning.  I just want to tell you more about how 10-minute delivery works, and how it is as safe for our delivery partners as 30-minute delivery.  This time, please take 2 minutes to read through this (before the outrage).”

In another tweet, Mr. Goyal said, “We do not put any pressure on delivery partners to deliver food faster.  Nor do we penalise delivery partners for late deliveries.  The delivery partners are not informed of the promised time of delivery.”

Explaining the initiative in detail, Mr. Deepinder Goyal said that there would be no incentives or penalties for the deliveries, under this new feature.  Furthermore, speaking about the eligible locations for this new feature, the Zomato CEO said, “We are building new food stations to enable 10-minute service for specific customer locations only.”

On the late evening of the 21st of March, Zomato India, announced to soon begin a  new 10 minute delivery initiative.  However, the social media users, backlashed the food delivery app for the initiative, claiming it to be extremely dangerous and unnecessary for delivery partners.  They also said the new feature would be a major risk for the delivery partners, amid the time boundary.

Therefore, to clarify the doubts of the netizens, Mr. Deepinder Goyal explained the pilot project to its customers, via micro blogging site, Twitter.

Notably, the new initiative would begin as pilot project in four stations of Gurugram, from April 2022.

Meanwhile, Mr. P. Chidambari, a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC,) raised the issue in the ongoing Parliament session.  He addressed the Lok Sabha members and urged them to issue guidelines for delivery companies such as Swiggy and Zomato to protect delivery agents from unrealistic targets and ensure their safety.
