Olympian Neeraj Chopra brings a silver medal with a throw of 88.13m at the World Athletics Championship finals, on July 23. With this fourth-attempt throw, Chopra secured a second position, whereas the gold medal was won by Anderson Peter of Grenada who threw 90.54m at the event. Furthermore, with this, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to bag a silver medal in track and field athletics, in world championships.
PM Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and other political leaders congratulated the Olympian for scripting sports history. He became the first-ever Indian to win a medal in track and field athletics at the world championship, in men’s javelin throw.
Furthermore, After Neeraj Chopra created history, a wave of celebration was visible in Neeraj’s village in Panipat, on July 24. His family and neighbors celebrated Neeraj’s silver medal at the World Championship. The villagers danced and celebrated. “We are delighted that his hard work has paid off. We were certain that he would win a medal at this event,” said Saroj Devi, Neeraj’s mother.
