Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an order on Wednesday abolishing the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), which was established during the Vaikapa regime. As part of the decision, 4,393 excise staff members, constituting 70 percent of the workforce allocated to SEB, will be reassigned to their parent department, the Excise Department.

This move restores the Excise Department to its original structure prior to the formation of SEB. The decision follows cabinet approval, with DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao issuing the official order for the cancellation of SEB.

When SEB was formed, only 1,881 personnel, or 30 percent of the 6,274 staff in the Excise Department, remained in excise, while the majority were transferred to SEB. Now, these employees will be brought back under the supervision of the Excise Commissioner. Additionally, an enforcement department will be established under the leadership of an IPS officer of IG rank to handle enforcement matters within the department.

The reorganization is expected to streamline operations within the Excise Department and improve overall efficiency.
