Telangana Drops KBR Park Flyover Plan, Clears New Corridor

The Telangana government has dropped the planned network of flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park in Hyderabad. The GHMC Standing Committee has instead cleared a single elevated corridor from Punjagutta towards Jubilee Hills.

The earlier project was approved in 2024 at ₹826 crore. Its cost later rose to ₹1,090 crore. The plan included seven flyovers and seven underpasses around the park.

Work had already started at some locations. Pillar foundations were built near Jubilee Hills Check Post, while roads were also dug for underpasses near Maharaja Agrasen Junction and Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital.

The project faced delays after a court order restricted tree cutting in the park’s eco-sensitive zone. Land acquisition also pushed costs higher.

GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan said the revised plan could save around ₹400 crore. Officials also said recent one-way traffic changes around KBR Park had reduced travel time.

However, traffic experts warned that the new system could move congestion to nearby roads. The revised project still needs further government and GHMC approvals.
