Superstar Rajinikanth met Tamil Nadu athlete Vithya Ramaraj and congratulated her on her strong performance at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Vithya won three medals — gold, silver and bronze at the event.
Vithya also made history in the women’s 400m hurdles. She clocked a personal best of 54.75 seconds to win bronze and broke PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record of 55.42 seconds. Usha had set the earlier mark at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Rajinikanth’s meeting with Vithya was also attended by her trainer Nehpal Singh and Chennai District Masters Athletic Association president M Shenbagamoorthy.
Vithya also helped India win gold in the women’s 4x400m relay. India finished ahead of Bahrain and China in the final.
