Cyclone Arnab has caused major damage to power lines and electricity poles across parts of Andhra Pradesh. Many villages are facing power cuts as repair work continues. The neighbouring state has now received support from Telangana.
The Telangana government has sent electricity repair teams to Andhra Pradesh after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sought help. The teams, made up of staff from SPDCL, left on Thursday to repair damaged poles and power lines.
CM Naidu spoke with Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday. Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi also joined the call.
CM Naidu explained the damage in nine affected districts and requested more staff, equipment and machines to speed up repairs. Initial estimates show that the cyclone uprooted more than 16,000 electricity poles, leaving hundreds of villages without power.
After consulting Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka agreed to provide support. He also directed officials to arrange the required help and speed up power restoration.
