Heavy rain has raised concerns across north coastal Andhra Pradesh after a cyclonic storm crossed the Odisha coast. Rising river levels and the risk of flooding have put several districts on alert.
The Meteorological Office has issued a red alert for Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam and Vizianagaram. These districts may receive more than 20 cm of rainfall, with a risk of flash floods.
The heavy inflow of water from Odisha has caused the Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers to swell. Some villages and farm fields in Srikakulam district have already been affected.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has warned people in the affected districts to remain cautious. A second flood warning has also been issued at Gotta Barrage, where water inflow and outflow reached 80,844 cusecs on Friday morning.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation with district collectors. He asked officials to maintain power supply, keep people informed and ensure round-the-clock support through control rooms.
Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu also spoke with district officials and asked them to stay alert as the rain situation continues to be monitored.
