The recent urban local body elections in Andhra Pradesh have highlighted the strength of the ruling NDA alliance. They have also brought fresh attention to the performance of Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party.
Jana Sena won every seat and leadership post allotted to it under the NDA’s seat-sharing deal. The party repeated its 100% winning record from the 2024 general elections, when it won all 21 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats it contested.
In the civic polls, Jana Sena secured the Mayor posts in Vijayawada and Eluru. It also won the chairperson posts in 14 municipalities and three Nagar Panchayats.
Former MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna became Vijayawada Mayor after defeating YSRCP candidate Rayana Bhagyalakshmi by 1,30,872 votes. Reddy Appalanaidu secured the Mayor post in Eluru.
Overall, the TDP-led NDA won 94 of the 100 urban local bodies where elections were held. Jana Sena’s performance has further strengthened its role in the alliance.
