Kochi: The holy month of Muslims, ‘Ramadan’ begins in Kerala today as the moon was sighted at Kappad in Kozhikode.
The spiritual head, Palayam Imam VP Suhail Maulavi and other leaders announced the Ramdan days yesterday. In the rest of the country, it is likely to start tomorrow after sighting of the moon this evening.

Ramadan also begins across the Gulf region except Oman, from today. The believers observe fast and join mass prayers held at mosques across the state during the period. Ramadan ends with Eid ul-Fitr.
Muslims in Kerala constitute 88.73 lakh (41.76 lakh males and 46.97 lakh females) of the 3.30 crore population.
