New Delhi: A suicide bomber killed nearly 78 people late on Saturday in a busy Baghdad shopping district, according to officials. The attack marks the deadliest attack in the year. The Islamic State group claimed the responsibility for the attack.
More than 160 people were also injured. The wounded were shifted to the nearby hospital. The blast occurred in the busy area of Karrada, where many people prefer to go for the shopping. According to Saad Maan, the Interior Ministry spokesperson, the killer had planted a car bomb near a restaurant. On Sunday morning, a second bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad, killing another five and injuring 16 others.
