A DOCTOR WHO CHOSE TO BUILD AN ECO-VILLAGE AND LIVE LIFE MEDICINE FREE

Living life close to nature is the best solution to our daily routine. Dr. Pravin Chordia is one among a few people who believes the same. He decided to buy a property in the year 2000 which was 45 kilometers away from the city of Pune, because he wanted to stay close to nature.

You must be wondering what moved him to take such a crucial step and why he chose to stay away from the city. The reason is not surprising. For 22 years the illness he had seen around him had left him disturbed. The busy life and rush in the city which caused increase in pollution.mango-news-3

Everyone depends on medicines alone. He said, “I felt we are getting alienated from nature, which is catastrophic. We cannot sustain our lives if we continue to throng our cities and shun nature. This feeling was reinforced when my son was diagnosed with asthma. I decided to change things,”

The land that he had purchased was barren. So, he along with his family bought 10 acres of land in Velhe Taluka, in the Sahyadri range and planted around 2.5 lakh trees!

But doing so was not an easy task. It required dedication and efforts to make his dream come true. Quite a few saplings were lost due to grazing while others were vanished due to forest fires. But this did not deteriorate his drive to plant trees.serene1

Today, more than 1000 species of trees have been planted which brings the total to 50,000 trees. Out of 110 acres of land , 45 acres have been reforested and soon 65 acres will be covered.

Planting trees is not easy. It requires years of dedication and patience to watch plants growing into trees. Dr Chordia feels more inclined to the nature and has a clear thought process.“As a natural progression, I decided to give up my allopathic practice and shut down my hospital. Going back to nature also means giving up the illogical ways of modern medicine. I told my wife I did not want to end my life on an ICU bed but wanted to live a healthy life,” says Dr. Chordia. serene2

Every drop of water is recycled in the eco village by collecting an insignificant amount of power from the network.

Truly, Dr. Chordia plays a key role and this is what led the farmers follow him!
