SEC Ramesh Kumar Writes To Central Government, Seeks Government Staff For Panchayat Elections

The State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on the 25th of January, wrote to the Union Government.

 

In the letter addressed to the Union Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Kumar sought services of the Central Government for conducting the Andhra Pradesh panchayat elections.

The decision to seek Central Government staff help was taken after the State Government employees said not to participate in the election.

The State Government employees threatened to boycott the A.P., Gram Panchayat elections, leading to lack of staff.

The unwillingness to participate in the elections was due to the fear of contracting the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

However, the government employees can discharge duties in panchayat elections once vaccinated.

In regard to the same, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar also  wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of the State to give vaccines to government staffs on a priority basis.

The request was made as the per the Central Government’s guidelines, health workers should be given vaccines first.

Whether the AP government employees will take part in panchayat elections is yet to be known. 

Meanwhile, after the Supreme Court’s approval, the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat elections would be held from the 9th of February till the 21st of February.

The elections would be held in four phases and nomination for the first phase began from the 25th of January.
