On 26 February Hollywood’s biggest night, the 89th Academy Awards ended on a rather dramatic note. This was after presenter Warren Beatty did a Steve Harvey type of Blunder and wrongly announced Damien Chazelle‘s musical ”La La Land” as the winner for the Best Picture. Like Steve Harvey, during the Miss universe 2016, the presenter Beatty later called on stage the team of ”Moonlight” to accept their Award.
Giving us a major Deja vu, the “La La Land” cast and crew were midway through the acceptance speech when Beatty realized the blunder and called on the “Moonlight” crew on stage to accept the award. Beatty walked up to the microphone and presented the winner’s card to the cameras and said the Barry Jenkins movie “Moonlight” was in fact the winner and apologized to “La La Land” crew.
“Actress in a leading role” – who handed that to poor Warren Beatty. Feel so sorry for him. #Oscars pic.twitter.com/0bFg2m5v6M

This mishap happened after the “La La Land” movie took some top honors like Best Director for Damien Chazelle and the Best Actress in Leading Role to Emma Stone. The makers and cast of “La La Land” showed their graceful side and exited the stage peacefully making way for the cast and crew of “Moonlight.”
The reason behind this mess up was that, Beatty was apparently handed the wrong envelope, the Best Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone. He was seen pondering for a minute before announcing the name and apologized as this was unintentional.
