Six Years Jail For Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pictorius was sentenced six years jail term for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. On Wednesday, Judge Thokozile Masipa announced the judgement. The judge asked him to sit on a wooden bench in the Pretoria courtroom and then explained the reasons for her decision and also added that she would consider several factors including the interests of victims and society and themes of crime deterrence and rehabilitation.

Judge Masipa said, “It now remains for this court to impose an appropriate sentence.”

Reeva’s Steenkamp’s parents were also present in the court during the judgement. In 2014, he was initially acquitted of her murder by Judge Masipa and he served a year in jail for manslaughter but last year his conviction was changed to murder by South Africa’s Supreme Court.

Oscar Pictorius killed Steenkamp by shooting, through a toilet cubicle door at his place and then claimed that he mistook her an intruder. However, prosecutors said that he killed her intentionally after an argument.
