Islamabad: In a significant development, Ishaq Dar, a prominent figure within the PML-N party and a seasoned chartered accountant, has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan. The announcement came through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday, confirming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision.

Dar, known for his close ties with the Sharif family, has previously held the position of Finance Minister twice. His appointment as Deputy Prime Minister comes as part of the government’s reshuffle and is effective immediately, with Dar set to serve until further directives are issued.

The formation of the PML(N) government, led by Shehbaz Sharif, was facilitated by an alliance with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) following the recent general assembly elections. Although Dar previously held the position of Chairman of the Senate, he relinquished this role as per the power-sharing agreement between the PPP and PML(N) parties. Consequently, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari assumed the presidency.

Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister underscores the ongoing political dynamics within Pakistan and sets the stage for new policy directions under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
