Hours after U.S., Defense Secretary James Mattis landed in Kabul, small rockets were fired and exploded at the airport on Wednesday. Fortunately, there were no casualties at the Kabul airport.

Kabul Airport Chief Yaqub Rassouli reported, “At 11:36 A.M., two missiles were fired on Kabul International Airport from Deh Sabz district, damaging the air force hangers and destroying one helicopter and damaging three other helicopters, but there were no casualties.”

Taliban and IS both have claimed responsibility for the attack and said their target was James Mattis.

Mattis made an unannounced visit to the war torn country to discuss President Trump’s new strategy to fight Taliban.

The Defence Secretary had announced earlier that 3,000 U.S., soldiers would be deployed to Afghanistan to train the Afghan security forces to fight against the Taliban and other military forces.

At present, 8,400 U.S., troops are serving in Afghanistan. Most of the troops are advisors to the Afghan forces and some of them are part of the operations against Taliban.
