The U.S. President retaliated at North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un’s claim of a nuclear button on his desk. Donald Trump boasted off saying he had a nuclear button too which is much bigger and more powerful.
On Tuesday evening Trump tweeted, “North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ‘nuclear Button is on his desk at all times’. Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a nuclear button, but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his, and my button works.”
At the annual New Year’s Day address on Monday Kim was quoted saying, “The entire mainland of the U.S. is within the range of our nuclear weapons and the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office. They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality.” In the address, Kim also said he hopes there is a peaceful resolution with South Korea.
On Tuesday, Trump posted a series of tweets targeting North Korea. He tweeted, “Sanctions and “other” pressures are beginning to have a big impact on North Korea. Soldiers are dangerously fleeing to South Korea. Rocket man now wants to talk to South Korea for first time. Perhaps that is good news, perhaps not we will see!”
On Tuesday night, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders explained the approach the U.S. is taking towards North Korea remains the same. She said the U.S. still considers North Korea as a global threat and requires an international solution while keeping all of their options on the table.
Trump went on twitter rampage on the day South Korea proposed to conduct a high level meeting with North Korea. The meeting is expected to take place of the 9th of January.
Kim is yet to accept the meeting but if he does it will be the first time in two years that the two neighbouring countries come together. North Korea has become a growing problem and the United Nations was forced to place multiple economic sanctions on the Country. But Kim Jong Un refuses to back down from increasing his nuclear power.
