Pakistan to send envoy to meet Trump’s transition team

Nawaz Sharif to send envoy to USA for meeting Trump's provisional team.

The Pakistan Government has decided to send an envoy to meet the provisional team of United  States of America,  formed by Donald Trump. This decision came two days after the telephonic conversation between the Pakistan Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif and President-elect Donald Trump. Nawaz Sharif had called Trump last week to congratulate him on his presidential election win. and the two leaders discussed various topics. In the conversation, according to the Pakistan’s Prime Minister Office, Trump had said that “I am ready and willing to play any role that you want me to play to address and find solutions to the outstanding problems. It will be an honor and I will personally do it.” Trump also supposedly added, “Feel free to call me anytime even before 20th January, that is before I assume my office.”

Tariq Fatemi, the Pakistan Prime Minister’s special assistant for foreign affairs has been selected to go and meet the Trump Transition team. Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S., confirmed the meeting. He said that “Besides meeting members of the transition team, Fatemi will meet officials of the outgoing Obama administration.”

The U.S., President-elect Donald Trump is all set to take the oval office on January 20. Before taking the oath as President, Donald Trump set up a provisional team that encourages the foreign leaders and officials to visit Trump’s headquarters in New York. This is a move taken so as to hold meetings between various countries leaders and officials and create familiarity.

Tariq Fatemi will be visiting the USA for two weeks officially and is expected to meet the provisional team. Jilani also added that Tariq Fatemi will visit Washington D.C., in these two weeks and meet lawmakers that were elected in November. Jilani said that “This is a very important visit as much has happened in Washington since the November 8 elections”
