Zika virus: US President Barack Obama calls for urgent action

President of United States, Barack Obama has called for an urgent action against the Zika virus. The deadly virus has been linked to unborn babies in womb with underdeveloped brains. Obama said the process of research to develop vaccines and treatments must be speeded up. The World Health Organization stated that the Zika virus is likely to spread across the America.

The symptoms include headache, mild fever and conjunctivitis. Already the virus has been found in 21 countries in the North and South America and also in Caribbean. The virus is affecting the babies in the womb. At present, Brazil has registered maximum number of cases of microcephaly – the condition where babies are born with small heads. So, the officials have asked women to delay pregnancy.
