On Sunday, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin called the United States President Trump to thank him. Putin thanked Trump as the Central Intelligence Agency helped Russia avoid an attack by the Islamic State.
The details of the attack have not been revealed but it was reported the attack would have taken place on Sunday. It was further stated the Daesh planned to attacked crowded sites like the Kazan Cathedral.
On the 15th of December, the Federal Security Service of Russia announced they had arrested seven people. All the ones arrested were suspected members of the Daesh group.
The thwarted attack was expected to happen in St. Petersburg. When Russia first reported the arrest there was no mention of the CIA. But on Sunday, the White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders posted the readout of President Trump’s call with President Putin.
