On Tuesday, the U.S. President Donald Trump gave his first State of Union address in Washington, D.C. Speaking before the Congress and other members of the Government, Trump branded North Korea’s Leadership as a depraved and a cruel dictatorship. Trump said, “North Korea’s reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles could very soon threaten our homeland. We are waging a campaign of maximum pressure to prevent that from happening.”
Trump spoke about his commitment to impose maximum pressure against North Korea. He also criticized the various approaches from previous administrations to reign in North Korea’s provocations. Trump said, “Past experience has taught us that complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocation. I will not repeat the mistakes of past administrations that got us into this dangerous position.”
A North Korean man who made it out of the nation Ji Seong-ho also attended Trump’s first State of the Union address. Alongside him were Fred and Cindy Warmbier, the parents of Otto Warmbier. Otto Warmbier was an American student who passed away few days after he was released from 17 months of captivity in North Korea. Trump pledged to honour Otto’s memory with total American resolve.
Yesterday, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Paul Selva said the U.S. military expressed optimism about the possibility of destroying most of the infrastructure behind North Korea’s nuclear missile program.
