New Delhi: Just a day before his hanging, Yakub Memon filed a fresh petition today before President Pranab Mukharjee. Yakub’s family filed a curative petition earlier which was rejected by the president in the month of May.
Three judge Supreme court bench will be deciding the fate of Yakub Memon. Anil R Dave and Kurian Joseph two judges had a split verdict on the various aspects of the case and refused to arrive at a consensus on staying the death sentence award to Yakub.
“We were expecting the disposal of the appeal today , however in view of the differences between the two judges, now the appeal has been referred to a larger bench,” said a senior bureaucrat. The state Home Department have made the arrangement of hanging at Nagpur central jail, Maharashtra.
