CAN DEPRESSION BE CURED?

All of us have faced depression at one point or other in our life. But why did we face it? What are the consequences that led us to the absence of light? It is natural to feel down sometimes, but if it persists for a longer period then there is a serious need for help. According to World Health Organisation (WHO,) depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness, loss of pleasure, low levels of guilt, disturbed sleep, feeling of tiredness and poor concentration.

We need to understand that depression is not a sign of weakness but a major health problem which can be treated. While we don’t know completely, what causes depression there are a several things that are linked to its growth and development.depression

Suicide is the major cause of depression among youth between the age group 15-14. For a majority of people with depression there is no apparent reason or cause for their feelings.Therefore, it is important to get help and treatment after noticing the signs of depression and understand its various roots.

Some probable reasons for depression are:

SOCIAL ANXIETY: Popularity is important for most teens and lack of it causes depression among the youth.

FEAR OF BEING REJECTED : Rejection is another major fear that the younger generation face everyday. Some people who experience such traumatic attack may fall into the trap!

ABUSE : Both men and women can face this situation. A study conducted in New Delhi found that 92 percent of women experience some form of physical violence in a public area in their lifetime. While, men face physical violence and harassment at work too.

LOSS : Sadness or grief from the loss of a loved one can also increase the risk of depression.

GENETICS : A family which has a history of depression may increase the risk too. This type of depression can be treated if one takes the right medication.

MAJOR EVENTS : This might come as a shock to most of you but, both good events like starting a new job, giving birth to a child, getting married; and bad events such as losing a job, loved ones, getting divorced etc., can cause a person to get into depression.

Overcoming depression isn’t easy, but it’s far from impossible. Staying connected with family and loved ones, eating healthful foods, challenging negative thoughts and sometimes proper medications can help one to overcome depression. Making the right choices and being patient each day can help one to get out of a pit of despair.
