Late on Wednesday evening, 26 were killed and 28 injured after a wall collapsed at a wedding hall in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur. This incident was a result of the heavy rains and thunderstorms in the area.

At 10 P.M., the guests of a wedding at the Annapurna Marriage Home on Sevar road, stood leaning on a wall to protect themselves from the rain. The wall, due to its poor structure collapsed on the guests. The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital immediately. Of the 26 dead, 11 were women and 4 were children.

District Magistrate N.K.Gupta, speaking about the incident said, “We are investigating the matter, looking into what caused the accident.” The police said that the entire wall and the shed attached collapsed and those standing under it were trapped in the debris. The wall, according to police, was 12 feet high and was 90 feet long. The shed attached has food stalls under it, where most of the guests were present. Anil Tank, the SI of the area said, “The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals immediately and treatment was administered. One injured has been referred to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur.”

 

The police also said that the bodies will have a postmortem on Thursday. The CM of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje consoled the relatives of the dead and directed police to conduct an in depth interrogation. She also ordered proper treatment to the injured under the guidance of the police.
